Founded in Marseille in 1989, IAM is one of France's oldest and earliest rap acts.
The name IAM is short for "Imperial Asiatic Men", though it has been given other meanings over the years: "Indépendantistes Autonomes Marseillais" (which can roughly be translated to "autonomous independentists from Marseille") and "Invasion Arrivée à Marseille" (meaning "invasion arriving in Marseille").
Currently, the group is made of Akhenaton, Shurik'n, Kheops, Imhotep and Kephren.
Former member Freeman left in 2008 to pursue a solo career.
